As it was a new approach of this type of gatherings and it could not be considered as a gathering or a workshop in its traditional
aspect. Moreover, it was full of joy and pleasure, where you can touch a high scouting spirit and a great intention – among the participants- to support the Scout Movement.
The Arab Scout Regional Office in close cooperation with FAO (providing its technological experiences as a support and presented the Arab Scout observatory to the Arab Region), and Arab Council of Childhood and Development (providing technical and cognitive support in the field of protecting children from harm); organized the 3rd Executives of Scout websites in Arab NSOs.
The event which was held during the period 17- 23/3/2013 (Cairo International Scout Centre – CISC) was attended by 48 participants representing 11 Arab NSOs as follows: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt and Mauritania, adding to that the representation of 7 unofficial Scout Websites including: Arab Scout Association- Lebanon, scouts Forum, Muslim Scout Association -Lebanon, Scout of Education-Saudi Arabia, compass website, Dubai Scouts commissariat website and Algarah website – Lebanon.
It was a big gathering of the Arab Scout Youth for this very special and important Arab Scout event where it was in line with the interests of the participants and links the talent to their task/s as they are Media commissioners and Executives of Scout websites in the Arab NSOs as well as the unofficial scouting websites.
The event which was held for its 3rd year came different from its predecessors; where it gathered between the cognition in the field of information systems (MIS) and how to take its advantage being applied in databases within the Scout Movement, in e-Learning, in facilitating communication and saving time in transferring information. On the other hand, number of key relevant topics was discussed including the role of Media in promoting and directing the public opinion. Also; the event focused on the creative leaders and their communicative role while they are sticking to the ethics of Scouts.
A very healthy competitive spirit spread among the participants while they were presenting their websites, explaining how they exert their utmost to meet the needs and interests of the visitors of their websites …etc. A fair evaluation process had been carried on by the participants themselves, where Saudi Arabia Website was the first among the Arab NSOs official websites whereas scouts Forum was the first as unofficial website.
On the other hand, The attendees focused their interests on the regional Media Strategy and applied SWOT analysis method to framework relevant national plans in order to promote strengths, facing the external threats, helping in managing the internal weaknesses and investing the available opportunities.
The Children – also- had a share in the named event where a topic on the role of Media in increasing the awareness with the conventions and codes of children’s rights and protecting them from harm and abuse was scheduled.
From their side, the participants launched number of initiatives to meet together on social networks including Twitter (Twitter for Every scout), (scoutbook), adding to that launched the Arab Scout observatory in Arabic as a test.
At the end, number of outputs were listed including: launching of the Festival of the Scout video film, organizing workshops for Media young Scouts, establishing a Media team representing the Arab NSOs who are specialist in video production and photography, websites, press and organizing a Scout International Media gathering to exchange relevant experiences and develop Media performance.
